Proper Storing of Artisan Bread

While a breadbox is the optimal option, most of us do not have this antiquated method of storing. If you don't happen to have a breadbox on hand, then simply wrapping the artisan bread with a light cloth or linen and leaving it at room temperature will do. Wrapping it in cloth helps to preserve the moisture and keeps it from drying out.
Alternatively, you can wrap it in the cloth and also store it in a paper bag. This is the closest method to a breadbox, as it protects it from elements while still allowing it to breathe.
Although most commercialized breads come in a plastic bag, you typically don't want to store your bread in plastic, unless you will be storing it in the freezer. Storing your bread in the freezer is a great way to preserve a loaf if you don't think you'll be consuming the entire thing within five days and will help to keep the bread for a longer period of time. To do this, wrap the bread thoroughly in plastic, making sure there is no moisture or condensation. This will keep the bread for up to 2-5 months. However, after two months, the quality of the flavors may start to diminish. Freezer Tip: Pre-slice the bread before hand so that the sliced bread will thaw quicker, and it can quickly be reheated through the toaster.
As mentioned before, NEVER put your bread in the refrigerator, as it will dry out your bread and speed up the staling process. However, if you do find yourself amidst stale bread, here are some quick tactics to get your bread tasting fresh again:
Add a sliced apple to the packaged bread. The apple may help to soften the bread.
Place sliced bread on a moistened paper towel, and microwave for 10 seconds.
